Tofu Dipping Sauce

"I was recently in Kyoto for a little bit, and I had a lunch at a small tofu restaurant along Philosopher's Walk. As part of the set meal, there was a pot of hot water with blocks of tofu in it, from which you were to take the tofu and dip it into dipping sauces. One of the sauces was I think ginger and soy sauce based, but the other sauce was absolutely delicious although I have no idea what it was made from... I've been dying to eat it again..." Suggestions?
