Mochi Rice Cakes

Friday December 19, 2008
mochi Mochi (sticky rice cakes) is consumed all year round in Japan, but it's eaten more often during winter, especially for New Year's celebration. Mochitsuki (pounding of steamed glutinous rice) is a main event among many Japanese New Year preparations. Freshly made mochi is soft, but it hardens quickly. When individually wrapped mochi blocks are available, grill, boil, or deep-fry them to eat.
