Steamed Cabbage and Pork

Layered pork and cabbage are steamed with sake. The sweetness of cabbage and the rich flavor of pork is a good combination.
Pork Recipes

Ingredients:

  • 8-12 leaves cabbage
  • 3/4 lb thinly sliced pork ribs
  • 1 inch fresh ginger, minced
  • 1/2 cup sake rice wine
  • *ponzu sauce

Preparation:

Parboil cabbage leaves and drain. Slice off part of the heavy stalk of each leaf. Line bottom of a medium pan or skillet with two or three cabbage leaves. Place some pork slices on the cabbage leaves. Season with salt and pepper. Sprinkle minced ginger. Again, place two or three cabbage leaves on the meat. Repeat the process, alternating with a layer of pork, then a layer of cabbage. End with a layer of cabbage leaves. Pour sake and cover the pan. Put on medium heat and bring to a boil. Turn down the heat to low and steam cook for about 10-15 minutes, or until pork is cooked. Serve steamed cabbage and pork on a large plate and pour some ponzu sauce before eating.
