Asari clams are steamed with Japanese sake. It's a simple but delicious appetizer.

Yield: 4 servings

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb fresh asari clam, scrubbed and washed
  • 1/3 cup sake
  • chopped green onion for topping *optional

Preparation:

Soak asari clams in salted water overnight in the refrigerator. Discard any clams that don't close at this time. Drain in a colander. Put asari clams in a large skillet and pour sake. Place a lid and steam on high heat for a few minutes until clams open. (Discard any clams that didn't open after steaming.) Serve steamed asari in a bowl and top with chopped green onion if you would like.
